品牌

知乎最近改版了诸多功能,并因「联合创作」事件受到了一些创作者的质疑。

Design as Branding 中提到:

Weak brands move like ping-pong balls; strong brands move like bowling balls. A new Rolex needs to look like a Rolex. A Leica needs to look like a Leica. A new Coca-Cola bottle needs to look like a Coca-Cola bottle.

当一个产品被冠以「高端」的形象,那么即使其它品牌的同类产品价格远高于它,也无损这个形象。

高端的产品提供了一种「气质」。就像我们不会认为成功人士穿戴的是赝品,却会怀疑暴发户首饰的真假。又或者我们很少怀疑 Amazon 上商品是假货,却很难信任售价便宜的淘宝店铺。

抱歉这样类比有些不礼貌,但主要的思想是——高端或者说气质提供了一种信任,而信任对于产品而言无疑是高尚(noble)的。也许强调高端或者信任很难在国内的商业环境中赚得盆满钵满、甚至是威胁生存。但这也越发凸显出追求质量,继而创造出留给用户以高端印象产品公司的可贵,比如 Rolex、Leica、Coca-Cola、Apple。

追求高端并不是为了表面看上去光鲜——尽管的确会导致看上去光鲜——而是崇尚着一种对「极客」和「硬核」精神的坚持。而这在我国目前的产品环境中是弥足珍贵的。

希望知乎能够不忘「初心」,珍视创作者们的信任。

DAO and Humanity

It’s interesting to watch some DAOs. Almost every DAO is full of enthusiasm at first and expects to build a perfect governance system. The process is not as good as it should be. Some centralized governance or small-scale DAOs instead grow better.

DAO-like concepts are not recently proposed. Holacracy , proposed in 1957, is a similar decentralized management mechanism. But in 2016 this management model was found not successful at Zappos. The main reason is that people want the system to work perfectly like an operating system, but human nature doesn’t fit in and leads to another direction.

「工具」与「赋能」

「Technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have a faith in people, that they’re basically good and smart, and if you give them tools, they’ll do wonderful things with them.」

这是乔布斯在27年前采访中说的一段话。Jobs 主张 empowerment,即赋权于他人。将好的工具提供给聪明的人,自然会产生意想不到的结果。

然而随着各大中心平台不断涌现、垄断,现在人们越发倾心好的「产品」,而非好的「工具」。更享受「消费」,而非「创造」。

最近 Web3、元宇宙这些概念突然火了起来,「去中心化」一度成为一种新的政治正确,科技的信仰似乎再次理想化地向左倾斜。但正如二十几年之前一样,新的时代下的「工具」的重要性远超于「产品」。Web3 为大家提供了一个绝佳的 empowering 平台,请用「工具」去「创造」,而不要在「产品」中「消费」。
